Ruffner Mountain Nature Center
In early 2008, thirty-one year old Ruffner Mountain Nature Center began planning the construction of a new 10,000 sf visitor center and education pavilion on its 1,011 acres of urban forest in Birmingham, AL. This non-profit organization with limited funds and limited staff, realized it could not expect its Executive Director to handle the day to day business of the organization, AND serve as project manager for this major construction project. Its Board of Directors then turned to Brantley Visioneering, a Birmingham-based project management firm, to act as Ruffner’s overall project manager. The charge was to coordinate the construction team: the architect, the contractor, a variety of other vendors hired by the organization, government agencies and Ruffner staff to get the new facilities built while continuing its seven day a week operation. As that Executive Director, I will be forever indebted to Brantley Visioneering for its invaluable role in making it all happen. Many unforeseen issues developed during the construction that could have delayed it for months and caused serious problems. Because we had Brantley Visioneering as our Project Manager these issues were identified and promptly handled so we stayed to schedule. I recommend Brantley Visioneering and its excellent staff to anyone embarking on a major project. My only regret is that we didn’t engage them sooner. Kathy Freeland
